about the artist
From an early age Aimee found joy in the art of needle and thread. Beginning with sewing lessons to make clothes for her dolls, she found her way to cross-stitching and over time honed her skills until hand stitching became her favorite pastime.
Using an assortment of found fabrics, upcycled clothing, and other repurposed textiles, each one of her creations is carefully hand stitched in uniquely imagined designs. Her freehand mix of traditional embroidery and boro style stitching, along with the use of bold color palettes, cannot be missed. Every patch, brooch, and upcycled garment is wonderfully one of one.
In 2023 Aimee was designated as an Artisan for Italian thread maker Aurifil. For an entire calendar year she forged relationships on the international level as she completed monthly challenges using the thread well-known among sewists and hobbyists alike. Aimee's work was also featured in the Seattle-based Orcas Paley art show titled Vide Poche, where she designed and hand stitched six unique pockets from upcycled denim. Most recently Aimee conceptualized a community driven art project for the Nelson Atkins Museum's Night/Shift event which featured performances and artwork from local Kansas City artists. Guests of the museum were invited to answer the question "How is Your Heart?" by stitching on one of 48 embroidery hoops on display. The result was a magical collection of embroidered hearts stitched by the hands of strangers.
It is through these experiences and more that Aimee hopes to leave a mark on the world of textile art.
