Handwork is healing.

Our mission is to foster creativity and well-being for individuals of all ages through the magic of handcrafts. At the school – during our camps, classes and workshops for individuals of many interests and skill sets – we’re not only creating functional pieces of art, but a sense of wonder for the natural world around us. We hope to inspire gratitude for all that we can create with our hands, our minds and our natural world.

Meet the maker

Hi there, I’m Lauren. Just a Kansas City gal with a love for fiber arts that goes back as long as I can remember. In fact, I can recall the first quilt I ever made, at the age of 8, with the help of a dear friend’s grandmother. My own grandparents gave me my first sewing machine by age 12. I’ve long been picking up the needle, be it for knitting, crochet or sewing and learning new crafts whenever I can.

Now, I have the dream job of teaching Handwork at a local Waldorf-inspired school. This is where my love for teaching fiber arts has grown, as I strive to create a nourishing curriculum for students. I’m currently a part of the Applied Arts Program at the Fiber Craft Studio, where I get to spend three weeks a year with the best of the best in handwork – then bring all my inspiration and learnings home to my students. (And soon, to you!)

My love for fiber crafts extends beyond the creation of beautiful, practical objects; I’m deeply inspired by the transformative qualities of handwork as it benefits body and soul.
