learn to crochet
let’s crochet! whether you’re a complete beginner or have a bit of experience, we’d love for you to join us in our cozy studio in kansas city, missouri, for a 2-hour introductory class on crochet.
please note! if you can confidently chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet, you’re ready to move on to our intermediate & advanced projects! you can learn more about our knitting skills levels here.
the details: in this class, you’ll learn how to hold your hook and yarn, make slip knots, chain stitch and single crochet in a row. if time allows and you’re feeling ready, we may practice other stitches, changing color, fastening off and finishing work and simple seaming.
you can take this class as many times as you’d like! we understand that everyone learns at their own pace. some students may feel ready to move on after 1-2 classes, while others return for more practice and inspiration.
instructor: lauren vossen
projects: pouch, coaster set, washcloth, scarf or wall pocket
skill level: absolute beginners and those with a bit of experience. you can read more about how we determine our crochet skills levels here.
required experience: none! just a willingness to learn.
ages: all ages 12+ are welcome. (if you’re looking for youth after-school classes for ages 9-14, you can find those here)
required supplies:
yarn – we highly recommend learning to crochet with natural yarn. worsted or bulky weight is best for beginners. learning with wool is ideal—for its simplicity, sustainability, and feel—but organic cotton is a good plant-based choice. we do not recommend acrylic yarns.
hook – we recommend starting out with a size G (4mm) or H (5mm) hook to begin with. if you’re working with a bulky yarn, you may want to size up to K (6.5mm). we sell
you can shop at maypop and all students get 10% off materials for class! if you’re picking out supplies at the shop, please arrive 15–20 minutes early for your class or bring your own from the list above.
cancellation policy
classes require a minimum of 3 students. an emailed notification of cancellation will be sent two days before the class if the minimum is not met. in case of the shop cancellation, all registered students will be refunded the class fee. student cancellations or no-shows can not be refunded.
