This dyeing process utilizes a traditional indigo vat in addition to a slip-like clay mixture that acts as a resist. Painted and printed patterns can be created by applying this clay selectively to textiles before dyeing. You'll learn a bit about the history and science behind indigo dyeing as well as a variety of mark-making techniques. Participants will each receive one cotton bandana to dye and are also welcome to bring their own cotton, linen, wool, or silk textiles to dye. We ask that you limit the textiles you bring from home to the size of two t-shirts. Participants should wear clothes and shoes that they do not mind getting dirty!
